Marla has worked with adults & children with a wide range of issues in individual therapy. Some of these include depression, anxiety, relationship issues, being bullied, addiction, sexual abuse, physical abuse, alcoholism, employment stressors and health issues. If you are seeking individual therapy and would like to talk with Marla about her experience with a particular issue, feel free to call and ask.

Marla was trained in Gottman marital therapy by Drs. John & Julie Gottman in Seattle, Washington. She has completed all 3 levels of training and is working toward certification. The Gottman Relationship Institute Website says it best, “No other approach to couples education and therapy has relied on such intensive, detailed, and long-term scientific study of why marriages succeed or fail.” Marla utilizes the Gottman methods, her knowledge, and experience to help couples heal their relationship.

Marla utilizes her knowledge and experience to help couples learn effective communication & negotiation skills. These skills help couples strengthen the fabric of their relationship, patch up holes/hurts & work towards a happier future.

Marla is also trained as a Domestic Relations Mediator. Mediation has been around for centuries, but is being practiced more frequently to help people arrive at peaceful solutions. Mediation can be practiced with many kinds of conflicts such as neighbor disagreements, family disagreements, estates following a death, or church disputes. Marla’s focus is on mediation between divorcing parents and how they can peacefully divorce with the least amount of conflict.

Marla and Kim are skilled at helping couples continue to work as a team for the benefit of their children long after the divorce has been finalized.

What is Mediation?

Mediation is a private process by which individuals negotiate their divorce.  A Mediator is a neutral professional who keeps the conversation focused and productive.  The Mediator guides you toward an agreement that is satisfactory to all involved.  The result of Mediation is a document that meets the legal requirements to complete the divorce process.

Why should you choose Mediation?

  • Avoid going to court
  • Make your decisions in an informal setting
  • Work toward a resolution instead of against each other
  • You make the decisions and you control the pace

Why are we doing this together?

Resolution of family conflicts require much more than legal decisions.  With Marla’s clinical expertise and Kim’s legal background we can guide you in Mediation through the legal decision making process.

Our Philosophy: Divorce is often seen as the end of the family.  We believe divorce is really a transition from a marriage relationship to a parenting team, working together for the benefit of their children.
